A flash of light in a sea of ??lights, this is England, because you've never seen before.
Astronaut orbiting 230 miles above the earth on the International Space Station (ISS) took on a clear night in the sky to take this incredible picture.
Large cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow was revealed in the spread of blinding yellow light.
Cities in the UK can be seen as small spots of light, while some highways the most heavily traveled appeared as thin, thin line.
The image was taken by Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli.
54 years capturing images - and others of a similar nature, including the closing of Ireland and Northern Ireland - just before the space station for journey back to Earth last month left.
Nespoli is a member of the Expedition 27 crew commander with the Russian Dmitri Kondratyev and NASA astronaut Cady Coleman.
The trio started their mission with the departure of spacecraft Soyuz TMA-20 in December 2010 and spent six months working on the ISS microgravity experiments.
